Accounting Position
Job Classification: Full-Time Regular
JOB SUMMARY
Full cycle accounting using principles of non-profit accounting to provide daily, monthly, and annual financial reports, analyze financial information, and apply appropriate accounting control consistent with Federal grant and contract requirements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement cost-center accounting and adhere to non-profit accounting requirements
- Compile financial information and record in GL with accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare monthly income statements, balance sheets, SFEs and profit and loss statements
- Prepare monthly budget variance reports and monthly financial reports to Federal agencies
- Prepare Payroll and oversee 941 and W2 preparations
- Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.
- Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
- Interact with external auditors in completing audits.
- Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
-Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost-center principles including thorough understanding of non-profit accounting principles. Knowledge of Federal OMB circulars A-110, 122, and A-133. Understanding NICRA principles of computation and allocation. Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications, Peachtree preferred. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections accurately. Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and seven years of accounting experience in NGOs accounting / federal grants. CPA is a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years experience in the non-profit sector
- Experience with federal grants and contracts
- Experience with NICRA
-Knowledge of Peachtree Complete Accounting preferred.
-Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with senior management.
-Ability to meet deadlines, time-management and organizational skills
- Ability to delegate functions and supervise accounting staff
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in Washington, DC. Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
