April-June 2013 Activities

During this reporting period, IF staff members and partner NGOs representatives delivered training to the 225 semiliterate women for a total of 30 days in their provinces.

IF conducted job skills trainings according to the economic mapping conducted by the economic development expert (EDE) in each province. 60 semiliterate female heads of households (FHH) joined the trainings after graduating from the work-oriented Arabic training and 90 literate FHH joined the job skills trainings.

IF conducted business skills trainings to help participants launch new businesses according to the economic mapping. The 20 top semi-literate graduating women from the work-oriented Arabic literacy training and 100 literate women joined the training. IF leveraged two resources to deliver the trainings: the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MOLSA) which will conduct Know About Business (KAB) training in Baghdad, Basra and Nineveh; and the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) created by USAID’s Tijara project which will conduct How to start a Business training in Diyala and Maysan.

IF is pleased to report that during this reporting period the WIES team was able to identify 36 job opportunity in different governorates and that 3 FHH accepted job offers at a woman’s apparel shop, Medical clinic and a nursery.

The WIES team in each province, including an IF staff member, partner NGO representative and the EDE,  reached out to several banks, employers and organizations that may hire participants or provide funds for micro businesses at low interest rates to  FHH.
