Iraqi Faces:

Since 1991, the Iraq Foundation has worked with countless Iraqis. Today it is our privilege to share some of their stories, so you can hear - from their own words - about the work of the Iraq Foundation.

Profession: Engineer

What is the benefit that you have obtained from participating in Youth Civics Camps Program  of the Post Elections Democracy Project?

“Through my participation in the Youth Civics Camps, I advanced my knowledge of the Constitution of Iraq, learned how to use film editing software to create and edit videos as well as how to use the Democracy Web program, and we explored the roles of citizens in Iraq and different techniques to promote civic engagement.  In addition to, I met youth from deferent ethnicities, backgrounds and provinces, including: Anbar, Nasirya, Basra, and Sulaimaniya.  We met during the 5 days training and each one of us learned about the others person’s traditions and way of life.”

Have your participation in the Youth Civics Camps motivated you to participate in volunteering works?  How?

I also submitted a proposal to the PEDP project’s Small Grants program.  My goal was to gather 200 youth (both female/ male) form different ethnicities in workshops to educate them on peaceful coexistence, networking, and show them how Iraqis from multiple ethnicities and backgrounds could work together for a common goal.
