Charities and Donations:
2007

The Future Association for the Children of Iraq (FACI), located in the Diyālā governorate, is home to 141 orphaned children. In December of 2007, the Iraq Foundation donated clothing items for children ages one – 15 and valuable food staples, such as rice, flour, and sugar. The donation is valued at $2,219.90 USD. Established in 2004 by Ms. Zainab Khadabach Assad, the Future Association for the Children of Iraq is currently working to expand their humanitarian assistance programs to meet the needs of the Diylaa community.

The Children’s Rehabilitation and Education Center (CHEC), located in Baghdad, is home to 342 orphans, most of whom are handicapped or mentally disabled. CHEC was established in 1999 as an association and became an orphanage in 2000. The Iraq Foundation provided the Children’s Rehabilitation and Education Center with household electrical items, like refrigerators and generators, educational tools for children as well as educational software, a computer, swing set, and many toys. The donation is valued at $1,488.06 USD.

The Public Orphan Care Center for Girls, Newborns and Children, located in the southern city of Nasiryaa in the Dhi Quar province, is home to 52 orphans, mainly newborns and girls. This public center, established in the early 1980s, provides all essential serves for the children in their care. After examining the organization's needs, IF donated basic living essentials, such as beds, refrigerators, ovens, heaters, freezers, clothing, and washing machines in late December 2007. This donation is valued at $2,697.08 USD.

The Fathers for Orphans Charitable Organization, located in the southern governorate of Maysan, provides support to 60 families of widows and children. Depending on the families’ needs, Fathers for Orphans provides basic supplies, essential to the survival of the families. In December, the Iraq Foundation donated household items, clothing, carpeting, heaters, and food items, which valued $2,468.33 USD. Given the pressing need for humanitarian assistance in Maysan, Fathers for Orphans hopes to aid even more poor families in the future with additional funds.

The Rami Center for Autistic and Handicapped Children, located in Baghdad, is home to 47 autistic and handicapped orphans, who range in age from four to 15. Established in 2002 by Ms. Nebrass Saadoun Reda, the center serves Iraqi children who otherwise could not function in Iraqi society due to their special needs. The Iraq Foundation donated a computer, educational software, drawing notebooks, colored pens and pencils, and cleaning products to the Center, which valued $608.35 USD.

The Bait Al-Tifil and Saint Hanna orphanages, located in Baghdad, care for hundreds of Iraqi orphans each year. In June 2007, IF made a special contribution of clothing, educational supplies, training equipment, hygienic products, and toys, valued at 1,000 US dollars.

2008 Activities and Donations:

The Workers of St. Alban’s awarded the Iraq Foundation a $3,000 to aid the orphaned, Yazidi children of Sinjar, Iraq. Sinjar, a town situated near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, was subjected to one of the most viscous, coordinated suicide attack in August of 2007. This attack left over 200 ethnic Yazidi children orphaned and in despite need of aid and support. Working with the Yazidi Brotherhood and Fraternity League in March 2008, IF supplied 170 Yazidi orphans with much needed resources and supplies, which included clothing, blankets, notebooks, education, and food.
