IF Executive Director, Rend Al-Rahim, Discusses National Reconciliation with Iraqi President Talabani

On July 20, 2007 IF’s Executive Director, Rend Al-Rahim, met with Iraqi President Talabani to discuss the importance of establishing a moderate Iraqi national front. Both President Talabani and Ms. Al-Rahim agree that a moderate national front is key to successful national reconciliation. To further this goal, President Talabani stressed the importance of activating collective leadership. During the discussion, President Talabani criticized foreign and Iraqi media for focusing on negative aspects of Iraq ’s situation without mentioning Iraq ’s achievements. For example, President Talabani stressed the importance of focusing on the decrease in sectarian related crime and murder as well as recent tribal participation with Iraqi and U.S. security forces to combat terrorism.
