Iraq to import electricity from Egypt and Jordan

The Iraqi Electro Company, a private company in Iraq, has reached preliminary agreement with the National Electric Company of Jordan (NEC) to import electricity from Jordan and Egypt.

The Iraqi Electro Company, a private company in Iraq, has reached preliminary agreement with the National Electric Company of Jordan (NEC) to import electricity from Jordan and Egypt.

The plan is to connect, through a 132kv power line, an electric power transformer in the town of Risheh in Jordan, near the border with Iraq, to Ukashat district in western Iraq.

Ahmad Hiyasat, the General Manager of the National Electric Company of Jordan, told reporters that the Iraqi company had already concluded an agreement with the competent authorities of Jordan and Egypt concerning the laying of the 200 km-long power line. NEC, he added would provide consultancy services to Iraqi investors.

The three countries are expected soon to thrash out all procedural matters.
