IF Successfully Concludes Widows Empowerment Project!
As part of the Widows Empowerment Project (WEP), IF held the final graduation ceremony to honor the remaining 100 Iraqi widows from the third and fourth training cycles in Baghdad on May 12, 2010. This ceremony concluded IF's 2 year project to empower Iraqi widows in Baghdad and Basra. Since 2008, IF has trained and empowered 470 Iraqi widows from Baghdad
and Basra by providing a host of services including job skills
training, literacy and civic education classes, mentoring and job
placement assistance.
In celebration of the conclusion of the 3rd and 4th training cycles in Baghdad, participating widows received certificates and small gifts to commemorate this accomplishment. IF used this occasion to highlight conditions facing the widows and the urgent need for assistance and training programs.
The ceremony was covered by a variety of media outlets and newspapers and publicized throughout the country and region. In addition to the widows and their families, Iraqi ministry officials, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Human Rights, Baghdad Council, and the US Embassy attended the event.

IF Holds 2 Anti Corruption Workshops in Beirut! |

IF successfully held two workshops in May as part of the Provincial Accountability and Governance Project (PAG). The Training of Trainers (TOT) workshops, held in Beirut in collaboration with the Lebanese Transparency Associations (LTA), provided civic leaders and local government officials from 15 Iraqi provinces with a comprehensive toolkit of anti-corruption indicators, monitoring methodologies, and civic organizing techniques to enable them to break down and simplify the legal and formal aspects of accountability into achievable operational components and practices, and thus provide a detailed, practical "how to" of steps to bring about change toward greater transparency. The first workshop included local civic leaders and government officials
from Baghdad, Mousel, and Kirkuk provinces was held from May 25 through
May 28. The second workshop included participants from the Babil,
Wasit, Salah Al-Din, and Al-Qadisiyyah provinces and was held from the
May 29 through June 1. In total, four workshops, including representatives from Iraq's provinces, will be held from May to June. Learn more and view photos...
