It gives us great pleasure to report the successful completion of the first training cycle during the month of April as part of the Empowering Iraqi Widows to Thrive Project!  IF held a graduation ceremony for 80 widows from the Maysan and Chabaysh, Dhi Qar training centers to celebrate the widow's achievement!  The remaining five centers will hold graduation ceremonies in May.  

IF continued broadcasting radio programs as well as TV spots aimed at promoting transparency and good governance throughout Iraq's provinces as part of the Provincial Accountability and Governance Project (PAG).  In addition, PAG's Integrity Monitoring Group from Maysan met with several key officials from Iraq's national parliament in order to discuss ways to combat corruption.

In addition, we are pleased to report that the small grants for youth continued to be implemented this month as part of the Post Election Democracy Project (PEDP).    We are still accepting applications for our annual "Youth Civics Camp" in partnership with the American University of Iraq in Suleimaniyya (AUI/S)!  Interested Iraqi youths between 18 - 25 are encouraged to apply for this enriching summer program. Please hurry, the deadline to apply is June 1st!

IF is launching its second year of "Youth Civics Camp" in partnership with the American University of Iraq in Suleimaniyya (AUI/S)!

IF is preparing for Youth Civics Camp 2011. IF will select 100 Iraqi students from across Iraq's 18 provinces to participate in the camps scheduled to run during the month of July 2011.

NEW APPLICATION DEADLINE June 1, 2011

During the Youth Civics Camp, students will train on the 'Democracy Web' curriculum newly developed by the Albert Shanker Institute and Freedom House for use at the high school and undergraduate levels. Special modules in the curriculum will dealt with the Iraqi constitution, the Iraqi state, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens under the constitution.

IF Celebrates Widows Graduation in Maysan and Dhi Qar! 

280 widows completed IF's
Empowering Iraqi Widows to Thrive (EIWT) training program during April!  To celebrate this achievement, IF held two graduation ceremonies in the Maysan and Dhi Qar training centers.  IF will celebrate the widows graduations in the remaining centers throughout the month of May and launch the project's second training cycle geared at training an additional 280 widows!

IF provides life changing training in seven training centers located in five Iraqi provinces  as part of the EIWT project.  IF offers training  in life skills, health care, and civic education. In addition, the project also provides vocational training in each of the seven training centers located in Baghdad, Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, and Mosul for select widows.

IF Helps Iraqi Youth Implement Small Projects to Promote Peaceful Coexistence 

It gives us great pleasure to announce  Iraqi youth continue to implement small projects to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence as part of IF's Post Election Democracy Project (PEDP).Each year, IF awards small grants to Iraqi youth on a competitive basis to fund project geared towards promoting tolerance, peace and mutual respect.   

During April,  Iraqi youth continued to implement the "Iraq Free of Sectarianism and Racism" project, which consists of a serious of 31 educational workshops targeting over 700 middle and high school students throughout Baghdad and Sadr City.  In addition, IF is pleased to report the successful completion of the "Radio Program to Empower Youth Project in Babil.  Spreading the values of democracy through a series of four radio programs, Iraqi youth in the Babil province discussed youth's role in promoting the values of democracy, ways to reconcile religious obligations and democracy, and the importance of dialogue and openness to promote peaceful coexistence.

IF Promotes Transparency and Good Governance throughout Iraq

 

As part of our efforts to promote a more transparent and accountable government in Iraq, IF's Integrity Monitoring Groups (IMGs) continued to hold radio call-in programs throughout Iraq to update the public and provide provincial officials with the opportunity to discuss the measures they are implementing to curb corruption.For a detailed schedule of the programs, please follow the link below.

In addition, IF is pleased to report that in addition to monthly meetings held with local official, IF's Maysan IMG met with members of Iraq's Council of Representatives in Bagdhdad.
