Dear Friends,

We are excited to announce the launch of IF's documentary film competition geared at promoting interfaith cooperation in Iraq!  We are now accepting applications from groups of Iraqi youth to produce video documentaries that highlight Iraq's diverse religious heritage. This is an excellent opportunity for young Iraqis; apply today!

As part of our efforts to promote good governance and transparency throughout the country, IF's transparency team held 12 town hall meetings in Iraq this month.  Part of the Provincial Accountability and Governance project, these efforts aim to inform the pubic on a wide range of transparency and corruption issues and link citizens to their elected officials.  In addition, IF held three regional meetings for partner NGOs throughout Iraq to coordinate and build a stronger anti-corruption community as part of this project.

As part of our efforts to empower Iraq's disadvantaged widow communities, IF is pleased to announce that we are now offering vocational skills training to 200 widows throughout Iraq!    Part of IF's newly launched Empowering Iraqi Widows to Thrive (EWIT) project, IF set up seven training centers in five Iraqi provinces, which all offer educational training and vocational training opportunities.   In addition, IF opened two daycare centers to assist widow participants in childcare during the training!  As part of our Post Election Democracy Project (PEDP), IF's executive director, Rend Al-Rahim, chaired a meeting of civil society leaders participating in the project's government watchdog groups.

IF Holds 12 Town Hall Meetings to Fight Corruption in Iraq

During the month of February 2011, IF partner NGOs and Integrity Monitoring Groups (IMGs) successfully completed the implementation of 12 town-hall meetings in 12 provinces as part of IF's successful Provincial Accountability and Governance (PAG) project. During those town-hall meetings, the general public was able to interact face to face with the government officials of their provinces, who in return addressed the people's inquiries and explained anti-corruption efforts and procedures adopted by the local governments. The IMGs presented interim reports on the status of the Agenda for Change being implemented in their province and invited provincial officials to discuss the findings and recommendations delivered by the IMGs and the general public.
