July 2012 Activities, Issue 71
Dear Friends,

IF is thrilled to share many the wonderful successes and accomplishments of July 2012!

This month, IF held the final sessions of the Youth Civics Camp at the American University in Iraq-Sulaimaniya (AUIS). This camp was held as part of the Post Election Democracy Project (PEDP). Two trainings were held at AUIS this month covering a number of democracy and civil society-focused topics.

In other PEDP-related news, on July 16, IF held the 9th peer networking meeting for new women Parliamentarians in Iraq! This meeting focused on establishing a regional network of women Parliamentarians, a key suggestion discussed during the regional meeting last month in Amman!

This month, youth continued to implement small grants in their local communities as part of PEDP. Ms. Raneen A'aed Rasheed held 3-day hygiene awareness sessions as part of her project, the Hygiene Awareness Campaign for Tourism locations and Environment Protection Project in Dahouk Province!

As part of IF's Women for Equitable Legislation (WEL) project, IF's Executive Director, Ms. Rend Al-Rahim, met with WEL staff and legal experts to discuss the upcoming Lessons Learned Meeting, scheduled to take place in September. Staff have been working hard on developing a number of guides and reports to be released as part of this project.

IF completed the extension cycle of the Empowering Iraqi Widows to Thrive (EIWT) project in Karkh and Risafa centers with an additional 31 widows graduated! Eight widows in Basra received funds to start businesses out of their homes!

IF has a number of special announcements to share with you this month. Please check them out on the right side panel!
