Human Rights Education Workshop

On April 18, 2006 the Iraq Foundation and the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights held a three day workshop for members of the Human Rights Committees that have been recently established at various ministries in Iraq. Twenty six civil servants attended the workshop, which was held as part of the Foundation’s Human Rights Education project at IF’s Human Rights Resource Center in Baghdad.
The workshop aimed at spreading and strengthening human rights concepts and universal principals among Iraqis and training the committee members on their tasks and duties. The workshop also introduced the committee members to the employees of the Ministry of Human Rights to help strengthen the working relation between the two sides.
The workshop trainers introduced the participants to the history of international and human rights laws and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The workshop also covered the United Nation’s mechanisms at protecting human rights, the relationship between human rights, development, and the environment, and the Convention Against Torture, among other topics.
