WEL Legal Experts’ Meeting: December 2011

- On December 10, 2011 IF held the Women for Equitable Legislation (WEL) project’s 1st legal experts meeting in Baghdad’s Alwya club.  Bringing together a variety of legal stakeholders, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss  the most important laws (or gaps in legislation) that need to be addressed to improve women’s rights, the most significant initiatives undertaken to date to address these laws, the obstacles faced, and suggestions for the best strategies and tools. Participants  including judges from the Higher Judicial Council, judges from Shura Council, and representatives from the Prime Minister office, State Ministry for Women and Ministry of Human Rights, as well as civic leaders and legal experts. First Periodical Meeting: March 15, 2014

- IF conducted the First Periodical meeting for TABEIR project at IF Baghdad Headquarters in Karada on Saturday March 15th. The meeting resulted in the identification of the training topics which will be provided by ICFJ along with agreeing on implementation strategy to carry on project activities. Pictures:


First Stakeholder Meeting: March 25 – 26, 2014

- IF Holds First Stakeholders Meeting As part of HEWAR initiative to enhance judicial outreach transparency, Iraq Foundation (IF) and with the sponsorship of the office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement affairs (INL) held the first judicial stakeholders meeting to present and discuss High Judicial Council (HJC’s) communication strategy developed by Strategic Communication Consultancies (S2C) and to enhance communication and outreach between HJC and other stakeholders of the criminal justice system. The meeting was held at the Judicial Development Institution (JDI) in Baghdad on the 25th and 26th of March, 2014. The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations by participants to develop the draft communication strategy and enhance the outreach between HJC and the stakeholders. - Due to their efforts, the legislative amendments and interventions that the WEL project has been working on to improve women’s rights in Iraq have been approved by the Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs and have been submitted to the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, where they await consideration by the Cabinet.
