IF continued providing educational and vocational training throughout Iraq as part of the Empowering Iraqi Widows to Thrive (EIWT) project’s 2nd training cycle throughout Iraq. In addition to implementing life changing training and empowering our widowed participants with vocational opportunities, IF arranged for widows to meet with the elected officials in order to better advocate for their rights. To help facilitate employment opportunities, IF met with the Minister of Women (MOW), Ibtihal Kasid Al Zaidy, and MP Jenan Bresam as well as local provincial council members and women’s associations. In Basra, staff brought widows to meet with members of the US Embassy, DRL and US chancer and other officials.
IF staff also conducted site visits to Mosul and Maysan enters to oversee and monitor the implementation of the project as well as meet with the cycle’s widows and discuss their progress. While visiting the center in Ba’ashiq, Mosul, IF also met with members of a local Provincial Reconstruction Team and UN representative to discuss micro loan opportunities for EIWT participates.
